Bangladesh Teammates Support Embattled Shakib Al Hasan Amid Match Fixing Claims

Bangladesh teammates support embattled Shakib Al Hasan amid match-fixing claims

Bangladesh cricketers are standing firmly behind all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who has been provisionally suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for failing to report corrupt approaches.

Hasan, 32, is one of Bangladesh's most high-profile cricketers, having played 56 Tests, 212 one-day internationals and 89 Twenty20s for his country. He is also a key member of the current Bangladesh team, which is due to play a three-match one-day international series against India starting on Sunday.

Hasan has denied any wrongdoing and said he will "fully cooperate" with the ICC's investigation. However, his suspension has cast a shadow over the Bangladesh team's preparations for the India series.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon said the board was "shocked and disappointed" by the ICC's decision but that it would support Hasan throughout the investigation.

"Shakib is a world-class cricketer and a role model for young Bangladeshi cricketers," Papon said. "We believe he is innocent until proven guilty and we will support him throughout this process."

Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza said the team was "behind Shakib 100 percent".

"He is a great cricketer and a great person," Mortaza said. "We believe in him and we will support him through thick and thin."

Hasan's suspension is a major blow to Bangladesh, who are already without injured fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman for the India series. The all-rounder is a key batsman and bowler for Bangladesh, and his absence will be a big loss.

However, the Bangladesh team is determined to put the Hasan issue behind them and focus on the India series. The two teams are scheduled to play three one-day internationals in Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet.

The India series is a major test for Bangladesh, who are looking to build on their recent success. The Tigers reached the semi-finals of the 2019 Cricket World Cup and are ranked seventh in the ICC ODI rankings.

Bangladesh will be hoping to cause an upset against India, who are ranked second in the ICC ODI rankings. The two teams have met 36 times in ODIs, with India winning 26 matches and Bangladesh winning 10.
