Max Johnson to Return to North Carolina in 2025

Tar Heel Quarterback Sidelined for Remainder of 2023 Season

Leg Injury Ends Johnson's Season Prematurely

Max Johnson, the starting quarterback for the North Carolina Tar Heels, will miss the remainder of the 2023 season due to a leg injury. The injury occurred during the team's game against Georgia State on August 31st, and Johnson was forced to leave the game in the second quarter.

Johnson, a transfer from Texas A&M, was expected to be a key part of North Carolina's offense this season. He had started the first three games of the season and had thrown for 674 yards and four touchdowns. His absence will be a significant blow to the Tar Heels, who are now 2-1 on the season.

According to head coach Mack Brown, Johnson is expected to make a full recovery and return to the field for the 2025 season. Brown said that Johnson's injury is "significant," but that he is "optimistic" that he will be able to return to full strength.

In Johnson's absence, Drake Maye will take over as the starting quarterback for the Tar Heels. Maye, a redshirt freshman, has appeared in two games this season and has thrown for 177 yards and one touchdown.
